3 Benefits of Building and Launching Model Rockets
Model rocketry is an amazing and fun hobby that I would highly recommend. In this article I will point out 3 reasons why you should start building and launching model rockets.
1. Learn about many different aspects of Aerospace and Engineering
In all types of model and ameteur rocketry you are constantly learning new things. These small rockets, most of the time less than 3 feet tall, share many similarities to rockets made by NASA, Space X, and ULA. You learn so much amount rocket propellent, stability, and recovery just by experience from launching small low power and mid power rockets. Building model rockets, even most of them come from kits, increases your craftsmanship and allows you to build many other things that you previously couldn't.
2. Meet many new people
As you start flying small model rockets it might be fine just to launch them at your local park, but as you progress into larger mid power and eventually high power rockets you want to join a sanctioned model rocket club. These clubs have improved safety, large fields for recovery, but most importantly many other rocketeers that have the same passion as you. You can learn from these people, ask for recommendations, and improve your skills in building and flying rockets! People at the clubs are an invaluable resource. Don't be afraid to ask them for help or tips because it might just lead to you having a better flight or recovery.
3. Ton of fun
Launching small and large model rockets can make you nervous at times, after you see the rocket you spent a few hours creating soar hundreds of feet into the sky, you are so happy. It can be such a rush! Even if you lose your rocket or if your rocket crashes they are not that expensive and you can buy another one. From each flight you learn much that you can apply to other rockets and flights. It is also very exciting to see other people's rockets launched too. Some rockets can be extremely large and weigh a few pounds. It's amazing that these rockets can get easily lifted a thousands of feet into the blue sky!
